This is the profile of the the world champion, chess genius.

Bobby Fischer was born in Chicago, Illinois. Raised in Brooklyn, he learned to play chess when he was six and won the US junior and senior titles at age 14. In 1972 he captured the world championship from Boris Spassky in Reykjavik, Iceland, while competing for what was then the largest purse ($250,000) offered in any sport outside boxing.

Bobby Fischer won in spectacular fashion against Spassky, but then became a bitter recluse. Unfortunately, Fischer lost his title in a dispute with international chess authorities, then disappeared for decades. When he resurfaced, he became known more for his anti-Semitic and anti-American tirades than his chess achievements.
