Mercy killing - or murder? This acclaimed documentary explores the true story about the events of June 6, 1990, in the small village of Munnsville, NY. Four elderly, illiterate farmers - the Ward brothers - who lived in a dilapidated two-room shack. When one of the brothers dies, another is charged with his murder. As the authorities build their case, the townspeople rally around the strange family in this truth-is-stranger-than-fiction whodunit that will leave you astonished by the time the credits roll.

Expert Review:
Better known for their Paradise Lost trilogy, Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky previously directed a different tale of murder in small town America. Delbert Ward was accused of murdering his brother William, and the whole community around them was all too willing to voice their opinions on the matter. In seeing the ramshackle way in which Delbert, William, and their other two brothers lived, the film dissects the difference between what poverty really looks like and how these people were portrayed in the press.
