Go inside the hyper-competitive world of youth sports, where kids don't play but have "careers."

Youth sports is supposed to be a release, something fun to do after school where kids learn teamwork and sportsmanship. Unfortunately, they are often something else entirely.

PLAYING TO EXTREMES takes a hard look at the new culture of youth sports, where the pressures are so intense that many kids drop out by the age of 13, complaining that the games aren't fun anymore. Those who keep playing are often driven by parents who spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours supporting their kids' "careers." One such child is eighth grader Jimmy Gardner, who plays five days a week on his school's soccer team and spends his weekends and evenings with a traveling "elite" team. 12-year-old Leah Agler is a skater with Olympic dreams, which she pursues with a punishing schedule that starts at 4:15 every morning. And Ally Ashber has already received a dozen offers from college basketball recruiters, despite being only 14 years old.

More kids are playing and fewer are having fun. INVESTIGATIVE REPORTSTM finds out why.
