For a decade or more, Al Capone ran Chicago. Despite the efforts of federal and local law enforcement, "Scarface" had an iron hold on the city. But his world started to tumble when he was convicted of tax evasion in 1931 and sent to prison. Two years later, his empire was dealt a crushing blow when Prohibition was repealed, taking away the main source of income from the Mob.
THE LEGACY OF AL CAPONE looks at what happened to crime in Chicago in the aftermath of these two events. We'll profile the men who succeeded Capone--Tom Accardo and Sam Giancana--and see how they took organized crime in new directions. Insiders like Wayne Johnson of the Chicago Crime Commission and William Brashler, author of The Don: The Life and Death of Sam Giancana tell the little-known stories of these important bosses, while a different view is offered by Giancana's daughter and Accardo's attorney.
