Expert Review:
Acclaimed director Spike Lee uses a single tragedy, the 1963 bombing of a church in Birmingham, as a lens through which to view the larger Civil Rights movement. The families of the four victims, the namesake girls, along with many others who lived through this period all reflect on the chain of events that culminated in this horrific act. Lee, whose work is usually quite confrontational about issues of race, here uses a steady, tender touch. By Daniel Schindel of ScreenPicks
