John Garfield and Lana Turner give the performances of a lifetime in "The Postman Always Rings Twice" (1946), a classic example of studio system film noir. Two lovers rub out a jealous husband, but betray each other in the courtroom, in this suspenseful and seductive adaptation of James M. Cain's novel. Though they manage to avoid jail, fate doesn't plan to let them get away so easily

Expert Review:
Postman is from that strain of noir that prizes stark realism over wit and visual style. Based on a James M. Cain novel and directed by Tay Garnett, it’s a grim story of two lovers – temptress Lana Turner and gorgeous John Garfield – who bump off Lana’s wealthy husband and get away with it, but then face a whole new set of problems. Hard-as-nails Turner makes a splendid femme fatale. Required viewing for any noir aficionado. By Jacqueline Fitzgerald of Film Noir Blonde
