Gene Autrey shot to stardom when he took on a nation 20,000 feet underground in the first science fiction serial with sound. The singing cowboy stumbles upon the survivors of the ancient sunken continent of Mu, now living in Murania deep beneath his own Radio Ranch. Now, he's caught between would-be world-conquerors with ray guns and killer robots and surface speculators hoping to make a financial killing off their scientific treasures. Sidekick Smiley Burnette and child star Frankie Darro (1933's "Wild Boys of the Road") co-star in this 12 chapter serial.

Expert Review:
The Phantom Empire is a bizarre fusion of singing cowboys and sci-fi ray guns. In his first starring role, Gene Autry saves the world with aw-shucks cowboy goodness. His “Radio Ranch” just happens to sit over the subterranean civilization of Murania and untold wealth in the form of radium—and gosh! Our hero is in danger! During 12 cliffhanger-rich episodes, Autry and his sidekicks rescue the ranch, defeat evildoers, and sing some excellent songs. By Bucko of Cowboylands
