Life is cheap in the West Texas of Cormac McCarthy and the Coen Brothers. A blue-collar everyman finds a cache of drug-runners’ money and is pursued in a cat-and-mouse game with an assassin, an aging sheriff, and others wanting the fortune and gunning for anyone standing in their way. Heroes persevering over villains and following happy trails are the foundation of traditional westerns.
