It is one of the tenets of our justice system that a person cannot be tried for the same crime twice. It is equally essential that all people are innocent until proven guilty. But in the case of Dr. Jeffrey MacDonald, these principles and many others seem to have been thrown aside.
THE GREEN BERET MURDER MYSTERY recounts how, in 1970, MacDonald's wife and two children were murdered at their home in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Though he suffered serious injuries, including a punctured lung, and testified that he saw people standing above him as he lay on his couch, Dr. MacDonald was charged with the crime by Army CID. After a lengthy hearing, the charges against MacDonald were dismissed. He earned an honorable discharge, but the Army never stopped working on the case. In 1974 a Grand Jury was convened that led, eventually, to his conviction.
With extensive interviews with prosecutors and defense attorneys from both the miltiary and civil proceedings, as well as moving testimony from MacDonald himself, AMERICAN JUSTICE® attempts to find out what really happened, and why MacDonald appears to be the result of a modern-day witch-hunt.
