In 1973, 51-year-old Barbara Gibbons was killed in a brutal attack, and the investigation focused immediately and virtually exclusively on her 18-year-old son, Peter Reilly. He was detained and interrogated, alone and without legal counsel, for over 25 hours, at the end of which he succumbed to the pressure and confessed to the crime. But immediately, and ever since, there were strong doubts about the validity of his confession.
