A deathbed confession solves a decades old murder--but leaves many disturbing questions unanswered.
They are the cases that confound investigators, crimes where evidence is contradictory or virtually nonexistent, where justice has to be put on hold. COLD CASE FILES shows how they are finally solved.
This episode opens with the story of Denise Huber, a 23-year-old who disappeared from the side of a freeway in Orange County, California in 1991. There were few leads and the investigation soon stalled. Three years later, police in Prescott, Arizona were called to investigate a mysterious Ryder truck. The seemingly routine call quickly turned into a very unusual homicide investigation, and Denise's killer was captured and convicted.
Next, hear from police who investigated the case of a skeleton unearthed in Chicago in 1999. Forensic tests indicated that it was the remains of a malnourished child with a broken jaw who had likely been buried in the late 1960s. Dedicated detective work unearthed tales of an "oddball" family that had lived in the area at the time, and investigators eventually tracked down a woman who confessed to the crime, but refused to reveal why she did it.
