A Louisiana town is left bewildered when a boat captain dies mysteriously at sea and the only man who knows what happened is Alvin Latham, a slow-witted bagger at the grocery store.

No one will ever know exactly what happened. And the one person who is in a position to speak is unable to give a fully satisfactory explanation.

AMERICAN JUSTICE® heads to the remote Louisiana town of Venice to examine the death of Raymond Leiker, who was lost at sea during a storm on the night of July 16-17. With him at the time was Alvin Latham, a 46-year-old grocery bagger who was known to all in town as good-natured and slow-witted. When Latham was found after the storm, he told police that he and Leiker had prayed together as the boat sank. But when Leiker's body was found with stab wounds and head trauma, Latham told a new tale.

MYSTERY AT SEA examines not just the incidents of that night, but the investigation that followed, concentrating on the power of interrogation in situations where the suspect is less than fully capable.
