In 1920, Massachusetts police investigating a much-publicized double murder picked up two Italian immigrants and charged them with the crime. Immediately, controversy arose over the arrests; to the conservative establishment they were anarchist bastards who deserved to hang, to the awakening political left, they were innocent victims arrested because of their ideology, not their actions.
In 1927, the State executed Sacco and Vanzetti, despite the 1925 jailhouse confession of another prisoner. The execution sparked a controversy that continues to this day.
IN SEARCH OF HISTORY examines all the evidence from the trials and period accounts to bring this story to life. Hear from two historians who have examined the case and come to totally different conclusions. And see why the case generated so much attention at the time and remains the subject of debate to this day.
Cold blooded killers or a good shoemaker and a poor fish peddler--what is the truth about Sacco and Vanzetti?
