See how seven Americans helped turned the tables on the rebels who held nearly 500 guests hostage at a diplomatic function.

On December 17, 1996, 500 guests gathered at the Japanese ambassador's residence in Lima, Peru for a gala reception to celebrate the Emperor's birthday. Among those present were many of Peru's most important governmental figures and distinguished foreign diplomats. But there were also disguised members of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) circulating among the guests, and in a bold operation, these rebels took control of the compound, demanding the release of their comrades from Peruvian prisons or "we die with all the hostages."

From the first explosion to the dramatic resolution of the standoff, COME HOME ALIVE chronicles every step in the situation with the help of some of the seven Americans who found themselves in the crossfire. When they were finally released, they had critical information about the rebels that was used to plan the dramatic raid that claimed the lives of all 14 guerillas--and not a single hostage.
