- Jason and Bill have only a week to learn enough not to get killed.
- Savate streetfighting is the nastiest thing to come out of France since the guillotine.
Despite its emphasis on hand-to-hand combat, in many ways martial arts are about how not to fight. This is one of the first lessons hosts and seasoned fighters Jason Chambers and Bill Duff learn on their globe-spanning quest to discover the traditions and techniques of the world's fighting styles. Learn with them as they seek out Masters of ancient and modern disciplines in the lands where they were created. Discover the cultures that gave rise to distinct martial arts. Witness as Jason and Bill challenge a champion - a true HUMAN WEAPON - after only a week of instruction!
Jason and Bill haven't got time to take in the Louvre and Eiffel Tower while in France. They've got just a week to learn the ins and outs of Savate before facing a French champion on his home turf.
Literally translated as "old boot," Savate developed through necessity. In the early 1800s, violent street gangs looking for trouble ruled the Parisian underground. Their prey was the aristocratic class who, to protect themselves, began taking self-defense classes. Over the years this training evolved into modern Savate, an exacting combat sport that's also the official hand-to-hand assault system of the French RAID police.
On their mission to learn Savate's distinct style, Jason and Bill navigate the dockyards of Marseille, roam the grounds of a 14th-century castle, and even breach a secret police training site to practice and perfect the painfully efficient kicks and punches that comprise this elegant yet ruthless art of combat. Of course, their learning curve is put to the test as they face off against a Savate heavyweight champion after only a week.
