Plunge deep into the trackless jungles of Sumatra to find a creature the locals call Orang Pendak. Is it a missing link? An unknown primate? Or something far more mysterious?
- Skeptics and believers get equal time to make their case.
- Monsters lurk among us' or do they? Get closer to the truth than ever before!
- MonsterQuest seeks to solve once and for all the mystery of Sumatra's Orang Padek.
From the lochs of Scotland to the forests of America's Northwest, MONSTERQUEST sets out to get to the bottom, once and for all, of our most persistent and compelling creature stories. All we know of so many monsters are campfire stories, blurry films and grainy photographs, so this fascinating new series takes a fresh look at the legends and seeks new, reliable evidence. Open-eyed historical research and real scientific analysis set the stage for groundbreaking field work: high-tech expeditions to the home turf of legendary monsters. If MONSTERQUEST can't find them, nobody can!
For centuries, rumors have come out of the nearly impenetrable jungles of Indonesia's Sumatra of a curious little creature known to the locals as "Man of the Woods," Orang Pendak. Dutch colonists and modern travelers and scientists have also reported sightings of this small, hairy human-shaped beast. And the 2004 discovery of skeletal remains of a tiny extinct hominid on the neighboring island of Flores reinvigorated interest in the "Real Hobbits" of Indonesia. But there has never been reliable evidence of Orang Pendak. Until now.
THE HISTORY CHANNEL® mounts a MonsterQuest expedition to apply modern science to this intriguing mystery. A fully-supported expedition plunges deep into the rainforest. The locals claim to see the creature often and guide our investigators to likely habitats. They even find footprints of an unknown upright walking beast. Camera traps are set and may provide our best hope for answers.
Could Orang Pendak, with its human face, be a living missing link? MonsterQuest gets as close to the answer as anyone ever has in THE REAL HOBBIT.
