In the late 17th Century a scientist stole corpses with the goal of reanimating the dead. Dabbling in alchemy and experimental theories, he was trying to overcome death. Locked in a castle overlooking Germany's Rhine Valley, his experiments would prove to be the precursor to modern electric shock therapy. He would also oversee the creation of new dyes, including Prussian Blue. However, his most lingering achievement may have been inspiring Mary Shelly's classic novel Frankenstein.

Discover what Shelly might have known about Johann Konrad Dipple. Is he the basis for Victor Frankenstein? What did she know about Dipple before committing pen to paper? How much of Dipple's character and experiments are contained in her classic tale? Go inside the mind of the author and the madman to see the similarities. Explore the minds and careers of other scientists that have attempted to wake the dead. Is Frankenstein fiction of phenomenon?
