Things were bad enough in the prisons and streets of New York in the early 90s. But thanks to the inspired leadership of Omar "OG Mack" Portee, things soon got a whole lot worse.

An inmate of Rikers, Portee felt the need to formalize a gang structure that could match the dominant Latin Kings, who ruled NY Metro jails and neighborhoods. His creation: United Bloods Nation. The result: an unprecedented scourge of criminal activity and violence. UBN, famed as much for its random brutality as its adherence to West Coast gang tradition, became a uniquely dangerous force both in and out of area jails.
