When Dan was 14, his oldest brother was sentenced to death for rape and murder. Dan spent much of his youth feeling ashamed of the stigma brought on by his brother's crime, as well as abandoned by his parents, who were completely consumed in their quest to save their son's life.
In his 20s, Dan escaped to Hawaii, but it wasn't enough. Despite the peaceful island tranquility that Maui has to offer, he turned to alcohol. Decades of binge drinking have finally caught up to Dan, who now drinks an average of 20 beers a day in between shots of hard liquor. His drunkenness often erupts into violence and rage, which terrifies his wife Sarah. She fears the negative impact growing up with an alcoholic father will have on their young daughter. Sarah knows she must take a stand. She desperately needs the support of Dan's family to intervene, and ultimately give Dan a choice -- go to treatment or lose his family forever.
