Attorneys from both sides talk on-camera about the long, strange odyssey that finally saw a killer brought to justice.
On the morning of June 4, 1986, Edward Post drew a bath for his wife, Julie, and went out for a jog. At least that is what he claims. When he returned, his wife was unconscious in the tub of their St. Louis hotel room. She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
DROWNING IN LIES recounts the strange legal odyssey that ensued, which began with an investigation by the St. Louis police so cursory that the hotel room was never sealed off, nor were any clues collected. The medical examiner listed the cause of death as drowning, but made the strange entry that the drowning itself was neither accident nor homicide, but "undecided." After one St. Louis detective smelled a rat, enough evidence was uncovered to try Post for his wife's murder. Here, lawyers for both the defense and prosecution recall the drama of the trials that ensued, as jury tampering, Post's deep pockets and repeated appeals drew out the legal process.
With witnesses changing sides and evidence that only came to light well after the crime, AMERICAN JUSTICE® details a murder case that was nearly derailed before it ever started.
