This science fiction classic is based Ray Bradbury's novel about a futuristic society subjugated in part by a ban on books. The great director François Truffaut brings this chilling story to life in his only English language film. Oskar Werner plays the part of a Fireman, someone whose job it is to find and destroy books by burning them. When his entire way of life is brought into question by his beautiful neighbor, played by Julie Christie, he begins to question the reasons for his job and starts to read the books that he is charged with destroying.

Expert Review:
Here is a film that should be higher on everyone's all-time list. Largely overlooked because of its sci-fi status, this is one of the best showcases of the legendary François Truffaut's abilities. Oskar Werner gives a performance that few could have matched in a film that coldly delivers the human condition. By Marc Eastman of Are You Screening
