This earnest yet deeply disturbing documentary delves into the bizarre inner workings of the Buchenwald Concentration Camp, one of the many death camps erected and maintained by the Gestapo during World War II. After it was taken over by the psychopath Commandant Herman Pister in 1942, it became even more vile with its twisted, horrid medical experiments including typhus and viral research, and homicide experiments. Other atrocities enacted at Buchenwald included the SS Death Railway on which prisoners were worked to death, and the team of inmates who doubled as guards in exchange for camp privileges.
