The news is utterly shocking. A gunman runs rampant on a university campus, killing at will. A major highway bridge over the Mississippi River collapses with terrible, deadly results. During both of these 2007 events the nation stopped in its tracks, watching in disbelief as the tragedies unfolded. In this compelling episode of I SURVIVED, meet ordinary citizens who not only survived these headline-grabbing events, but managed to bring others out alive as well.
In April 2007, the Virginia Tech community — students, staff and faculty, parents and Blacksburg residents — was torn apart by the rampage of a merciless gunman. Before ending his own life, the killer claimed the lives of 32 others. I SURVIVED brings to the screen the incredible stories of two students, Derek and Colvin, and a professor, Ishwar, who recount their harrowing brushes with death. Through quick thinking, selflessness and the heroism of others, these men kept themselves and others alive until the lethal guns were finally silent.
And later that same year, in August, two more heroes arose from the rubble of the collapsed I-35 bridge in Minneapolis. After their school bus plunged 45 feet to the ground below, Jimmy and Kim struggled to save dozens of young children, including Kim’s own daughter. While the disaster claimed four lives that day, Kim, Jimmy and all 52 children in their care escaped with minor injuries. Relive the ordeal with these ordinary heroes as they recall the perilous moments that brought them and the kids literally to the brink of death… and back.
I SURVIVED shines a revealing light on these recent, terrible events and introduces the world to a group of inspiring survivors and heroes.
