I watched the SHANE episode last night and was transfixed for the entire hour. Visually, the show was incredible, great camera work, vivid colors and seemingly real situations.

The content was amazing. The family seemed just totally fractured. It seemed a miracle that Shane was still alive for all the drugs he was taking.

The devastating journey from 'band geek' to near death from abusing drugs was so very sad. In one hour, it's impossible to include every aspect of Shane's life that led him to the point where he agreed to go into rehab, and there are two points i'd like to make about that.

One, the producers did a fine job filtering enough information to us to let us at least understand how this transformation occured. Two, i just felt myself WANTING MORE, which is great from a viewer standpoint. I wanted to know more about his relationship with his twin sister, his relationship with his mother and his relationship with his grandmother.

I would have easily been transfixed for another full hour if they'd have expanded it to a two-parter!

The thing that really propelled the story for me is that I really liked Shane. I was rooting for him...and it was great to see him smiling and gentle at the end. I hope hope hope that he stays off drugs.

The only thing that didn't really go well with the story was the aspect of his cousin. she didn't really play a part in anything other than the on-camera interviews.
