We'll trace the long history of the ruler, from the strings used to measure the blocks of the pyramids, to today’s handy tape measures found on every carpenter's toolbelt.
Over the centuries, man has measured with his body, his belt, and even the arm of a king! From the cubit of biblical times that helped measure Noah's ark, to the 19th century wantage rule that helped detect fraud, the ruler has been one of the most essential tools in any toolbox. We’ll also visit the Stanley works to see how the modern tape measure comes together, and to answer the question- why is it yellow? Finally we’ll look at rulers old and new- from rare collectible rulers, to the high tech sonic measuring device.
