AMERICAN JUSTICE traces the secret life of the man at the heart of the scandal that has rocked the Catholic faith.

  • Investigators, administrators and church insiders help examine this troubling case.
  • Hear from some of Geoghan's alleged victims.

John Geoghan was young, energetic and always smiling. Known as ""Father Jack"" to his parishioners, he baptized their babies and celebrated their weddings. But he was hiding a dark and terrible secret; over three decades, he molested over 140 children. He preyed on lower income families, often single mothers struggling to make ends meet, who were delighted to have a man in the house helping with their children. But after gaining their trust, Geoghan would visit the kid's bedrooms at night, sexually abuse them, then tell them to keep it a secret.

As rumors and accusations against Father Geoghan began to surface, the Boston Archdiocese would send Geoghan for psychological treatment and then assign him to a new parish. But the incidents continued, and the Archdiocese's refusal to deal with Geoghan led to the downfall of Cardinal Bernard Law and precipitated a scandal that would rock the very foundation of the church.
