In searching my family history, I've learned that my father's family was in the Kansas/Nebraska/Missouri area before, during and after the Civil War. Many of them served. I bought this dvd hoping to hear some of what it was like for them. While I was disappointed that none of my family's units were mentioned, I was not disappointed in the dvd. It was informative and well done.

I liked the mention of "Bleeding Kansas" which was not all about John Brown. Small mention of the northern soldiers involved in this battle being experienced in fighting. What fighting? What of the soldiers stationed at Ft. Scott? Ft. Leavenworth? Battle of White Stone Hill? Why would my great-grandmother sleep with a pistol as a young girl for fear of the soldiers?

There is so much information on the other battles and areas, would love to see more done in these areas and this dvd is a good start.

The movie was very accurate and entertaining. Even though only a limited amount of information is available about the original battle, the producers did an excellent job of re-creating it using civil war re-enactors, dressed in period uniforms using period weapons. Watching this movie gives a realistic insite into what it must have felt like to have been there and witnessed the original battle.
