I'm building an astromnomy DVD collection because I have a lifelong interest in the subject.

I like the cinematography and the sense of mystery that surround the topics.

I would like more computer simulation to illustrate conditions on the planets. Hey, just make it up.

I started watching the series in the 3rd season, so seeeig it from the beginning was awesome. I can't wait to get the next couple of seasons. Discovery knocks it out of the ballpark with this series. Great job. And for the younger viewers, it makes learning about everything in our universe more fun and intiguing than it was when I was in school.

The series was broadcast as widescreen 16:9, but on the DVD it is standard TV format (4:3), so if you watch it on a widescreen you see a small image surrounded by black bars on the top, bottom, AND sides. The "windowbox" format means image resolution is lost, and that is a shame for a program with great graphics.

I love this DVD set. I have given it as a gift to two friends so far, and plan on ordering two more Season 1 sets to give to two more friends at Christmas.

Some parts are boring, but most of it is a wonderful in depth exploration into the mysteries of our solar system, galaxy and beyond. Most the episodes combine science, mathematics, graphics, lots of Astronomer and physicists' interviews, and best of all tons of great pictures of the marvels of the Universe. In the end you come away learning a lot, with an increased appreciation and awe for all of the amazing life on earth against unfathomable odds, and a childlike wonder of the vast and incomprehensible nature of the Universe. I can't wait to get out and visit the Observatories that are open to the public in the San Francisco Bay Area.

This set is truely unbelievable and amazing. Goes beyond the basic moon and stars you learn in school. I gave it 5 stars because it's so in depth and it just draws you in. I recommend to everyone!

I can't wait for season 2.The wealth of information about the place you live is truely astounding. The graphics are some of the best our present technology has to offer.It is presented in a manner that all age groups can appreciate.Carl Sagan Would be proud. The History Channel should be.

The reason i rated this dvd program ''excellent'' was simple because is one of the best programs i have ever acquired and i learned a lot about the big bang theory only because of this dvd. According to the theory
13.7 billion years ago a mysterious event set the universe into motion, giving birth to everything that now exists. The universe is really, really big and it's getting bigger even our solar system is incredibly big and what's amazing is that the solar system is not a stationary system because right now at this very second the solar system is spinning, flying through space at 134 milles per second, turning in circles as part of a vast collection of stars and stars systems. There may be two hundred billion stars in this collection called THE MILKY WAY.

I found The Universe season 1 to be the most interesting and educational program I've ever watched, people of all ages should view these dvd's, I think schools should use them as an educational tool for learning. I have shared these dvd's with all my family and friends, I've encouraged all of them to purchase this series. I know the highest rating you have is a 5 but in my opinion these dvd's are a 10 star. I have already pre-ordered season 2 and can't wait to see it.

This is one of the best documentary of scientific information I have watched. It's very interesting and informative. I would watch it almost every day. The pictures and colors are fantastic and the visual effects are also great. I've always been interested in the unknown, and this gives more information than any other space program I have wittenessed.

I tried these DVD's without having viewed them on television. They are fantastic! They're entertaining, well-made and educational. I sit down wanting to watch each episode and taking some knowledge away with me! I would recommend them to anyone who enjoys science and the History channel.

I purchased this for my 13 year old son. He loved the show on the History Channel and talked about it all the time. It was a Christmas gift purchased at the last minute as a "I need one more gift, and I have no idea what to get!" It was a huge hit and he told everyone that the best gift he got was The Universe DVD series. He watches at least one of the shows once a week.
