In this episode of The World's Most Dangerous Roads, we'll travel high into the Andes to a road that has more deaths per mile than any other byway in the world. This steep and bumpy road plunges almost 2.5 miles in the four hours it takes to drive it.
This Five Act History Channel adventure begins on location in the Amazon River basin of Las Yungas, Bolivia, where our host will take us to meet the very people who depend on this road to transport their fruit, vegetables, coffee, and coca leaves to the buyers in La Paz.
Here we will talk to accident survivors, veteran drivers and the very individuals who live and die by Bolivia's Carretera de la muerte, or "The Death Road".
Join us as we take a journey back in time to learn about how this treacherous byway was first designed and constructed on the backs of Paraguayan Prisoners of War. By Act five our host, Marsh Mokhtari, begins a harrowing journey of his own as he prepares to traverse a road many Bolivians have traveled for centuries. From the high snowcapped peaks of La Paz, Marsh Mokhtari will drive Bolivia's Death Road. We hope he lives to tell.
