John Chatterton investigates the fate of a tugboat that sank suddenly in 1993.
Blending high seas adventure with the latest advances in maritime archeology and forensic science, DEEP SEA DETECTIVES travels the world to explore perplexing mysteries of lost vessels, sunken treasures, and submerged secrets.
On March 5, 1993, the tugboat Thomas Hebert and her crew of seven left Virginia for Maine, towing a barge loaded with 8,500 tons of coal. At 3 AM on March 7, a few hours after turning the bridge over to the relief crew, the captain and first mate were shocked from sleep when the vessel listed sharply to starboard. They bolted from bed and tried to save the ship, but to no avail. Then a sudden blast blew them into the water, where they watched helplessly as the tug went down. Alone in a life raft, in the middle of the night, in the middle of the ocean, they were left to wonder what sank the tug and killed their five friends. A decade later, the DEEP SEA DETECTIVES are on the case.
