A look at the styles inspired by the American Arts and Crafts movement, which include homes and furniture that have pure and simple lines and collectibles that have true integrity.
The American Arts and Crafts movement of the 20th century presented an original style to the world that is truly American--homes and furniture that have pure and simple lines--collectibles that have true integrity. This show explores the unique styles inspired by that noted movement. First up, Arts and Crafts in it truest form--the world-famous Greene and Greene historical Craftsman bungalow in California's idyllic Ojai Valley. This segment explores Arts and Crafts architecture as well as the Craftsman's' purest interiors and furniture through the eyes of owner/historian Bill Moses.
Segment two offers a twist on original Arts and Crafts pieces--furniture inspired by the historical movement but updated in vibrant colors and simple shapes for today's more contemporary customer. An array of stunning pieces designed by the Maine Furniture Company are featured in a group of mini make-over vignettes styled by the famed interiors boutique, Lili, Henry and Zoe.
Segment three features the original home of actor, artist and comedian Martin Mull and his wife, Wendy. The Mulls' Spanish-styled home is not only full of Craftsman style--but Martin's original Deconstructed Americana paintings as well. The show culminates in a spectacular twist on Arts and Crafts--a tour of a modern masterpiece designed by noted architect Charles Sampson. 7,000 square feet of soaring ceilings, natural wood and slate exteriors, and pure and stunning Craftsman interiors--truly the Arts and Crafts home of the Millennium.
Other segments include the art of Stained glass, and an interstitial segment on Collectible Bauer pottery.
