Safeguard your furniture and entertain your guests with this elegant set of four coasters depicting the historical Waldseemuller Map. Taken from Exploring the Early Americas exhibit, these coasters depict an image from one of the most historical documents created of early America. Dubbed "America's Birth Certificate," the Martin Waldseemuller's 1507 World Map is based on Amerigo Vespucci's voyages of 1501-1502 to the New World, and is the first map to depict the newly found American landmass, which monumentally forever changed the European understanding of the World. The Waldseemuller Map was created with orignial woodcut spanning across 12 sheets of paper, to create what you see in this extrordinary document.
This actual artifact and more can be viewed on display at the Library of Congress, in the Exploring the Early Americas exhibit.
